I am a teacher of Microbiology at Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto and am the leader of a small young group involved bacterial isolation, taxonomic and phylogenetic characterization, description of new taxa, ultrastructural and environmental studies and screening of biologically active molecules with biotechnological, pharmaceutical or agronomical interest.
We possess a culture collection of about 1 000 bacteria composed of Planctomycetes, mainly isolated from marine macroalgae and heterotrophic bacteria (from several phyla) isolated from marine sponges, macroalgae, mussels, grapes, salines and deep sea.
